RESEARCH IN CLASSICS

Research on the ancient world is an important aspect of the department's work at all levels. Advanced undergraduates have the opportunity to carry out research projects under the direction of a faculty member through the department's Distinguished Majors Program. Current and recent projects include:

  • Color Terms in Homer
  • A Taxonomy of 'Speaking Names' in the Odyssey
  • Vergil's Eclogues as Dramatic Texts in Antiquity and Today
  • Representations of Educated Women in Latin Poetry
  • Epic Mothers in Statius's Achilleid
  • Prudentius's Poem on St. Cassian: Translation and Commentary
  • The Treatment of *-to- Verbals in Greek and Latin
